| THE
MOVIE |
| Deep within
the jungles of Central America, lost amid the crumbling Maya
ruins, lies an ancient secret so strange, so horrible, that
only one civilization would be dumb enough to release it ...
ours.
|
|
| An archaeological
research expedition is sent deep into the jungles of Central
America. Working alone in a remote area, they are dependent
on technology to maintain their connection with the outside
world, but when this fails, they are left totally alone. Nothing
is heard from them until weeks later, when a lone survivor
emerges after a strange and terrible massacre. |
| |
| The
survivor, Barry (Ronny Varno), is a student at Powell University,
the institute which financed the mission. He returns home,
bringing with him the last remnants of equipment left by the
expedition. To his friends Stan (Etan Muskat) and Jane (Eshe
Mercer-James) he seems strangely detached, and he is naturally
reticent to discuss the horrors he witnessed. Gradually, it
becomes clear that he holds a secret more disturbing than
even he can ever understand. |
| |
That
night, while Barry and Stan are away, strange sounds stir
in their vacant dorm room. From deep within the equipment
in Barry's bag comes an ancient entity, freed from its jungle
prison, now unleashed upon the modern world. |
| |
Soon
an unknown plague is spreading, transforming the dead - no
matter how rotten their bodies - into shambling, murdering
zombies
ready for the kill. In the subterranean tunnels beneath the
university's medical complex, the creatures grow and multiply
into a vicious squad of determined, cold-blooded monstrosities.
But even more horrifying than the creatures themselves are
the methods required in destroying them, which force anyone
who wants to survive to new depths of hideous depravity. |

Moving
drama, liberal symbolism, heartfelt emotions, and stunningly
lyrical setpieces . . . yep, that's FLESH FREAKS on the nose.
Well, almost on the nose -- in the eye socket, maybe. But
really, FLESH FREAKS is more like one of those young-hip-criminals-in-a-heist-gone-wrong
movies. But no, that's not really right either. Ah, yes --
FLESH FREAKS is a 'young confused lesbian slacketeers discuss
their lives in grainy black and white, with arbitrary shifts
to miniDV' movie. Except different, with more zombies. But
in any case, FLESH FREAKS does contain a great deal of that
fundamental ingredient in any good movie - you know, like
CITIZEN KANE or SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED - GORE!

| |
| PLUS:The
all-important "Sure, I'll take a shortcut through the
haunted cemetery at midnight" mentality that allows movies
like this to reach feature length! |
| |
| AND:
On-location shooting
in Central America, featuring stunningly authentic archaeological
techniques and actual Maya temples and artifacts! Also: DV
technology allows for astoudingly close views of leafcutter
ants, flies, bats, and even the occasional crushed bug! Unbelieveable!! |
| |
| WITH:
Mind-blowing
special effects that would make the producers of DOCTOR WHO
cringe in terror (or, more accurately, terrified embarassment)!!!
